About Dr. Babu Stephen

Dr Babu Stephen is a well-known businessman, activist, in the Greater Washington area and is the CEO of DC Healthcare LLC Inc., and the President of SM Realty LLC. He is a founding member of Kairali television, the publisher of two newspapers, ‘Express India’ and ‘India this Week’, in the metropolitan DC area. He was the founding producer of ‘Darshan Television’ in Washington DC.

He has held many leadership positions in the Indo-American community. He has served as the President of the Indian Cultural Coordinating Committee for two years and was a member of the United States Congressional Advisory Council and Regional Vice President of the Federation of Indians in America. He has also served as President of the Association of Indian in America and as Chairman of Indo American Press Club.

He has dabbled in media and having arrived in America almost four decades ago and has been among the first generation of Indian community builders there. He is the producer of “Summer In America”, that has aired 88 episodes on Kairali TV and is directed by Shaji M. Dr. Stephen was also a part of the Washington DC Mayor’s business delegation to China. He is also a prominent social worker, political activist, spokesperson, entrepreneur, and a human rights activist.

Manifesto

Being among Indians in America, to enter the American political scenario and work towards uplifting the Indian community
To Utilize the invaluable experience as an Indian American, a journalist and a member of the board of various associations to make sure that FOKANA moves forward in every sense with the future Malayalee generation, inspiring them to bring FOKANA to the forefront in all aspects
To Foster Indian American relations and strengthen Indian presence in American and international forums
To Preserve the culture of land where he was born and making the next generation a part of American national history
To Showcase the earnest efforts and financial support offered by 40+ yrs. of Indian Americans in the US and to bring them to the notice of the presidents of India and America
To bring back the unity in the association and work for the upcoming generation- as the world changes
To Set up OCI Card Counter in Trivandrum and Kochi Airports
To form a Migrants Tribunal for safety of the assets of Indians overseas
To setup Employee Guidance centre for assisting Indians travelling to America for job purposes
To formulate guidance programs for Indian students studying in America
To promote and preserve the rich traditions, heritage, and culture to the next generation of Malayalees
To conduct numerous programs and activities for our community’s well-being and its progress
To preserve the Malayalee tradition and culture through the activities and events we conduct
To reach out to the needy and promote charitable endeavours during times of need in the community, locally and internationally, thereby developing the quality of giving
To help the poor and needy by providing them necessities for a better existence

To provide avenues to create leaders for the betterment of the community they live in
To provide leadership to the community to actively participate in every civic activity in the local communities and thereby assimilate into the local culture and traditions

Generously contributed close to $70,000 out of his personal pockets towards FOKANA for multiple court cases and its proceedings and worked towards getting them resolved
During the floods in Kerala, donated 1 Cr rupees towards the Chief Ministers Relief Fund
Vowed to construct free houses for 25 families in Trivandrum, Kerala during the year 2022-2024
Actively involved in and contributes to many social work activities both in Kerala and in the United States

Married to Gracy Stephen from Punalur in 1975, who is currently serving as President of DC Healthcare Inc
Sindhu Stephen, his only daughter is a MD - Gastroentologist, and is married to Jim George
